The Sunny Dahlia

I finished this painting this afternoon.  It was started some time ago for a lesson I was teaching at Riverside Art Center.  I did two paintings of the same dahlia - one in traditional and one outlined with miskit and poured.   I never finished this one.  This was the traditional approach.  It is 9" x 12" and is painted on 140 lb. cold-pressed watercolor paper.  Below is the same dahlia in the poured format and hanging down instead of facing up.  I used the same drawing for both.

Both of them are gorgeous..even though I have a little preference for the second and loser one.

I also like the second one, especially because of the beautiful green leaves background. Your portrayal of light and shade in the flower is as always masterful. Wow!

I have to agree, Barb, the second one is the one I like the best. Love the background suggestion and mystery, adn the blending of colors with the outlined petals. it's gorgeous!
