Still Life Under the Influence

Well, I wasn't going to paint today since I was planning to help take-in paintings at the Riverside Arts Center.  After our snow yesterday and the winds expected last night, I really didn't want to drive through snow drifts!  So - I e-mailed that I couldn't come and stayed home today.  Early this a.m. my friend Michelle called and asked if I wanted to paint this afternoon (the snow drifts don't scare her!)  - so....we set up a still life and painted.  During our session, my husband made us Irish Coffee - hence the reference to painting "under the influence." :)

This painting is an oil painted on a 9" x 12" canvas panel.

Hi Barb, I like the title! Nicely done! There is something so wonderfully lush about oil paintings; your colors are rich and vibrant. It sparkles too!

Like Peggy, I think the title is great! Your oil paintings are excellent and this one is no exception - I like the composition, the colors. I am glad that you were scared of the snowdrifts:-)

Mmmmm...Irish Coffee and painting? Can I join you next time? ha ha It would be a bit of a drive and I'm hibernating until spring now (-2F this morning) but maybe in the early spring? :) BTW, I like this painting the the shine on the bottles. I think I like your oil paintings because they look like watercolors - you get a glazing glow in them that I thought could only be accomplished in watercolor or fluid acrylics.

Christiane...I felt guilty after it cleared up in the afternoon - I probably could have gone to the arts center. Thanks for your comments.

Rhonda...you can join us anytime you wish. Other people say my oils look like watercolors - guess that is because I am a watercolorist at heart - it is hard to look that urge to glaze and blend.
