Opaque and Textured Cornflowers

In the book "Celebrate Your Creative Self", Beam talks about when opaques surround your subject matter, it will make your subject more special.  In this painting, I drew some cornflowers on a reject painting from the "archives" and then surrounded them with light blue acrylic paint allowing the original painting to be the subject cornflowers. I tweeked some areas with glossy green and ginger acrylic paint.   Beam states that the opaques help focus attention on the subject of the painting.
This painting is 9" x 6" and is on 140 lb. Arches cold-pressed watercolor paper.

Wow!!! Wonderful! I have my "gallery in the closet" filled with archives [hah!], and I can't WAIT for my Beam book to arrive. I got a note that says it has been shipped. Am so loving your work. Hope I can do half as well ...

Dee...this was so much fun to do! I think we all have closets full of "archives" and there will be a multitude of opportunities to create! This project was on page 15, I think - and the example is a couple sitting on the beach. I don't know what I will do today, yet! You will love this book. I am basically a traditional watercolorist, so this is a stretch for me!

Barb, I love this and the other works you are doing from this book. I want it too!!! You are doing a great promotion/publicity piece for her. I wonder if my niece might be persuaded to bring it over when she visits???
