I did some experimenting this weekend with pouring. The Watercolor Workshop Yahoo group has this succulent for it's March project. I decided to try a different approach and after drawing it using a grid, I outlined it all with miskit. I decided to pour each leaf individually instead of the whole paper at once. I used acrylic inks which I mixed up ahead of time. I removed the miskit and am ready to define and detail the painting with traditional watercolor techniques. The painting is 15" x 20" and is on Fabriano Artistico 140 lb. cold-pressed watercolor paper.

This is amazingly beautiful! Wow, you technique so works. Of course, the perfect drawing using grid to start with is an important part of the end result. But the shading works perfectly. Fantastic.
Barbra, it's really beautiful. You're amazingly busy everyday. As I see this blog of yours, I wonder if you still have time to rest. One of my many reasons why I always visit your blog is to see what you have created for the day.
That technique worked beautifully on this - just a few darks here and there and you're finished :) I like the larger size, too.
Yes, Ruth - as we have discussed, the drawing you start with is extremely important and I try to get this fact across to students - the planning and drawing is part of the creative process of painting.
Cora - thank you for your comment! Yes - I am busy - so busy that I don't always get my comments answered when I should. I am genuinely happy that you check with me every day - Honored, I should say - Thanks so much!
Rhonda - here is is Friday, and I haven't gotten back to it - the demo on Tuesday night sort of interrupted this one. I hope to get back to it before the end of March so I can consider it a project painting! :)
