The Challenge from "I am The Diva" using "Orbs!"

This weeks' challenge from "I Am The Diva" was to create a tangle using "orbs! I used #.08 and # .005 MicronPigma black ink permanent ink pens and then shaded with Prismacolor colored pencils.

Rock's Easter Tulips

My husband, Rock, gave me this pot of tulips for Easter.  They were so lovely and I just had to paint them.  I painted this on 1/4 sheet of 140 lb. Arches cold-pressed watercolor paper.  I used mostly sap green, quinacridone rose and Payne's grey watercolors.

This is my answer to the newest challenge from The Diva!  We were asked to use the tangle "Verve" in our tangle.  I used a #02 MicronPigma Black pen and shaded with #2 mechanical pencil.

I am the Diva Weekly Challenge - "Siri" by Simone Menzel

The Diva's Weekly Challenge is to use the tangle "Siri" by Simone Menzel.  I decided to incorporate it into a floral design using "Siri" as the blooms.  I used a  #02 Micron Pigma pen and extra fine green and violet markers.

The Diva's Challenge #348: Moebius Syndrome Awareness Day

Moebius Syndrome is a congenital nerve disorder affecting cranial VI and VII nerves controlling the lateral movement of the face.

The Diva's challenge was to use the Moebius Syndrome logo as the string for the Diva's Weekly Zentangle Challenge.

Wednesday, January 24, was Moebius Syndrome Awareness Day.

White Pitcher with Peaches

I finished this watercolor recently - as you can see I am having trouble painting with my bad shoulder so the background is a lot looser than I intended.  Instead of fighting with it I decided just to leave it alone.  It isn't something that I will show, that is for sure!!! lol  It IS good to paint though, even though the work is not what I am happy with.

The "Muses" Christmas Party

We had the Muses' Christmas Party at the home of Barbara Pelly in Cridersville.  We had a lovely time, especially because Theresa was able to join us - it has been so long for her recovery from her automobile accident...she has a way to go yet and we all are praying for her speedy recovery.

We had delicious Chicken a la King, wonderful salad and dessert.  Following the repast we enjoyed opening presents.  We are looking forward to all being together when Theresa gets back from Florida in the spring.

Nova Scotia Lighthouse

I stopped teaching my watercolor class at Riverside Art Center in Wapakoneta a couple months ago.  I sure miss my watercolor family. Unfortunately my shoulder problems have not improved very much.  I am painting, still, but on a very minimal basis compared to what I was doing.  

This was the last lesson I taught.  It is 9"x12" transparent watercolor painted on 140 lb. cold-pressed Arches.

I Am The Diva Challenge for this week

I Am The Diva Zentangle challenge for this week was to use the new tangle "Wibble!"   Wibble in my design is what makes up the left angle and  design on an angle.  This is about 3" x 5" and is done on white drawing paper. I used a Micron-Pigma black pen - .005.

Mary's Crocus's

I created this painting from a photograph taken by my sister-in-law, Mary Hart.  The painting does not do the photograph justice.  This painting is 9" x 11" and is painted on 140 pound cold-pressed watercolor paper.  It is transparent watercolor.

I plan to use this painting with my watercolor class at Riverside Art Center as a lesson.

Darren's Window

This is a painting I have prepared for my watercolor class - a lesson in textures.  The painting is from a photo by Darren the Photo Guy in Kentucky and it is painted on 140 lb. cold-pressed Fabriano-Artistico watercolor paper.

Barbados Marketplace

 This painting was created from a photo, and with the permission of Corrie Scott, who lives in Barbados.  The painting is 9" x 12" and is painted on 140 lb. cold-pressed Fabriano Artistico watercolor paper.  It is transparent watercolor.  I was taken with the shapes in the photo and how the darks and lights work together and against each other. 

Rose's Wine With Green Grapes

My good friend, Rose, recently brought me a small photo of grapes with wine which she found in the "life" section of the newspaper.  She, and I both thought it would make a great subject for a painting for my class.  This painting is approximately 9"x 12" and is painted on Fluid 100 140 lb. cold-pressed watercolor paper.  This is basically a limited palette painting in 99% greens  and yellow with a little red added to the green to get the dark green of the leaf and the shadows in the grapes.  I don't know who the photographer is, so I can't give credits.  I made some changes when I drew it and added some things that weren't originally in the photo.

We like to drink wine while we paint in class, so this painting is very appropriate for us!!!

This painting is a watercolor on a tissue paper collage over an old, discarded painting, with a touch of Zentangle thrown in.

I textured the tissue paper with Gesso before I collaged it to the old painting.  This was a class project for my watercolor class and I encouraged them to find their own floral inspiration and they all did a wonderful job.  Some even changed the subject to sea turtles, angels and fish.

I did this painting from a photograph taken by Bryan Wahrer while he was on a vacation in New England some time ago.  Bryan is a very gifted photographer who was also a former student of mine while in high school.  He was also a gifted artist.  As you can see he has a fine eye for composition.  Thank you, Bryan, for allowing me to use this beautiful photo.

The Purple Door

I finished this painting this evening...it will be  a lesson for my watercolor class in Wapakoneta, Ohio, at the Riverside Art Center.  This painting is approximately 9" x 11" and is painted on 140 lb. hot-pressed Fabriano Artistico watercolor paper in transparent watercolor.

Whirligiggs!

I finished this mixed media piece this evening.  I am going to use it for a lesson for my watercolor class this summer.  They have expressed an interest in doing some mixed media work.

I used an old watercolor painting as my base and then collaged green tissue paper over the entire surface allowing some of the original painting to show through.  Then I collaged pieces of white tissue paper on which I had painted and stamped gesso patterns.  Then I took a stiff bristle brush and softened the edges and drybrushed white gesso over the entire painting allowing the green tissue to peak through..  At this point, I drew the koi fish and then painted the composition with watercolors which worked really well over the gesso.  I was happy with the results because I love the textures which are showing through all the different layers.    This painting is approximately 12" x 16".

We worked on a still life with pears and a bean pot which was loosly taken from one of my mixed 

media paintings with watercolor on gesso.  The painting now resides with my good friend, Rosie Wermert.  The bean pot is inherited from my great-grandmother - very special to me.

This painting is smaller, and strictly watercolor.  It is 8 1/2" x 11".

The painters are not finished, but are doing a great job.  Please notice that Rose is still working on last week's painting - also a beautiful painting.

Cindy's Apple Blossom

I finished this painting this evening from a photo taken by a good friend of mind, Cindy Staples.  I am afraid to say that I have not done the photo justice, but I tried.

This painting is 9"x11" and is painted on hot pressed Fabriano Artistico watercolor paper.  I plan to use this for my watercolor class as a lesson.
