Arizona Poppy

This is a painting I just finished from a photo by David Richmond, a WatercolorWorkshop member.  This is going to be the first lesson for my intermediate watercolor class at Riverside Arts Center in Wapakoneta, OH.  This painting is 9" x 9" and is painted on 140 lb. Canson cold-pressed watercolor paper.

It looks like Eschscholzia californica to me, very delicate pretty flower, known as californian poppy and yellowy orange or orange.

by the way, it looks as if it is painted while being illuminated at night which might be a little strange because I think this is one of those flowers that actually closes at night!
Nice painting :)
