The Copper Tea Kettle - WIP 2

This is the second installment of the copper tea kettle painting - as you can see, it is taking a while, as I expected.

Haitian Makeda Dancer

This painting was started with a poured background - wet-into-wet- with three colors...fleshtone, antwerp blue and quinacridone rose-violet.  I added salt while it was still wet and then allowed it to dry (with the help of the hair dryer.) I really like the colors resulting from the combination of the fleshtone and the rose violet. Then I drew my dancer on the dry painting with pencil using one of the dancers from a photo of a group of Makeda dancers that I found on the internet.  I used the dancer as inspiration and did not really copy it, due to copyright restrictions.  I made many changes while I was drawing.  Then I lifted some of the lights and darkened some of the areas with watercolor to help pop the painting.

Home to Roost

This little painting is 5" x 6" and is painted on 140 lb. cold-pressed watercolor paper.  I used quinacridone rose violet, yellow ochre, antwerp blue and sepia.  I did it all wet into wet and finished it with wet on dry.  Compositionally, I would consider this a realistic "shapes within shapes" design style - the trees sort of frame the shapes in the distance. 

The Copper Tea Kettle WIP 1

This is my creative effort for the day - I started a painting of a copper tea kettle today which has many beautiful reflections.  It is going to take a while - more than a day - and so I have decided to document my daily progress.  My source photograph is taken from a wonderful picture sent to me by my friend Deb Holmes who is an excellent photographer.  She is so generous to share her artistic efforts with me.  Thanks, Deb.

Cairn Bridge, Scotland

Happy day after Christmas!  This, my daily creation,  is a painting of the Cairn Bridge in south Scotland.  It is 5" x 7" and is painted on 140 lb. Arches cold-pressed watercolor paper.

Pines in the Snow

This is my daily painting  "Pines in the Snow" - in watercolor on 140 lb. cold-pressed  Canson's watercolor paper.  The size of the painting is 8" x 6".

My Christmas Greeting For You All!

This is a Wycinanki - a Polish Paper Cutting which I cut for my daily creations in honor of Christmas.  This is my version  of the Polish Tree of Life and it is cut on the fold with an x-acto knofe and then glued to a colored background.  This was always a very popular project when I was teaching high school art.

Rooster at the Brick Barn

This is painted from a photo I took this summer while painting en plein air at a landscaper, The Brick Barn.  I was painting a red caboose in oils, and these "feathered beasts" were freely  "grazing" in the shrubs while we were painting.  The painting is a watercolor, 8" x 11" and is painted on 140 lb. Canson Tientes watercolor paper.

A Simple Landscape

This little landscape comes from my mind and imagination.  I limited myself to viridian green, burnt sienna, yellow ochre and diox. violet.  It was painted completely with a #10 round watercolor brush and is 8" x 6".  It is painted on hot-pressed 140 lb. Canson Tientes watercolor paper.

Today's offering to the muses - 6" x 8" - is painted on 140 lb. Canson Tientes cold-pressed watercolor paper.  It is painted from a Wet Canvas reference photo by Bortai.

Homage to the Season

This is my second pointsettia  painting this season, the first was for a get well card for a good friend.  This painting is 6"x 8" and is painted on Arches 140 lb. hot pressed watercolor paper.  I poured the paint - wet into wet for the first layer, then drew the flower, and then finished up with mostly negative painting techniques.  One thing you can say about this  is that it is COLORFUL! :)

Two Pears

This is my impression of two pears and my muse offering for the day.  It is transparent watercolor, 8"x6" and is painted on 140 lb. hot-pressed Arches watercolor paper.  This was a quicky because I am busy preparing for my solo show which begins on January 14th.  Right now I am busy preparing the list of paintings for the gallery.  That is a very hard task - making the choices of what paintings will be in my show.  I am going to have to bite the bullet and make some final decisions.

Deep In Thought

This is my daily offering to the painting muses - I call it "Deep in Thought" and it is 8" x 6" and is painted on 140 lb. Arches cold-pressed watercolor paper.  This is a very loose interpretation of a photograph I saw on Wet Canvas.  I have always liked to paint pictures of people - especially my grandchildren - which I will have to do again soon!

Hot Rooster!!!

Well - maybe a hen will think he is hot, anyway!  This painting is 71/2 x 5 1/2 inches and is painted on Canson Tientes 140 lb. cold-pressed watercolor paper.  You can tell that he is king of the roost!

Two Apples

This picture of 2 apples was painted this afternoon during my Thursday afternoon painting group.  This is my inaguration painting - the beginning of my blog which "tracks" my daily adventures with media.
